GagaFast Black Shield 420D Waterproof Car Cover South Africa – Heavy-Duty All-Weather Outdoor Protection
GagaFast Black Shield 420D Waterproof Car Cover South Africa – Heavy-Duty All-Weather Outdoor Protection
GagaFast Black Shield 420D is a heavy-duty waterproof car cover built for South African outdoor conditions. Made from 420D Oxford fabric — double the thread density of standard 210D covers — it provides stronger protection against UV radiation, rain, hail, dust, wind, bird droppings and leaves. Suitable for cars, SUVs and bakkies that spend regular time parked outside.
Why South African drivers choose the Black Shield 420D
South Africa's climate is tough on unprotected vehicles. Intense UV rays fade paint and crack dashboards, summer hailstorms cause costly dents, and coastal salt air accelerates rust. The Black Shield 420D is designed specifically for these conditions — delivering heavy-duty protection at a fraction of the cost of a respray or panel beating.
- Guards against South Africa's high UV index — one of the highest in the world
- Waterproof seams help reduce water ingress during summer thunderstorms
- Windproof buckle system keeps the cover secure in high-wind conditions
- Dustproof fabric ideal for gravel driveways, farm environments and street parking
Key features
- 420D Oxford fabric: Heavy-duty double-weave for improved durability and weather resistance — significantly tougher than standard 210D car covers.
- Waterproof sealing: Reinforced seams on critical areas help reduce water entry during heavy rain.
- Windproof design: Elastic hems plus adjustable straps and buckles keep the cover secure in strong wind.
- Driver-side zipper: Access your vehicle without removing the full cover.
- Mirror pockets: Shaped cutouts for a more tailored, snug fit around side mirrors.
- Reflective strips: Improved visibility for outdoor and street parking at night.
- Storage bag included: Folds away neatly for easy storage when not in use.
420D vs 210D — what is the difference?
The number refers to the thread density of the Oxford fabric. 420D is approximately twice as dense as 210D, meaning it is heavier, more abrasion-resistant, and provides stronger UV and waterproof performance. If your vehicle is parked outside for extended periods or in exposed conditions, 420D is the recommended choice. For lighter daily use, the GagaFast Blue Shield 210D is a more affordable option.

Frequently asked questions
Is the GagaFast Black Shield 420D car cover waterproof?
Yes. The 420D Oxford fabric is treated with a waterproof coating, and critical seams are reinforced to reduce water entry. It is designed to handle South African rain conditions including heavy summer thunderstorms.
Does this car cover protect against hail?
The Black Shield 420D provides a protective barrier that can reduce the impact of light hail. For areas with frequent severe hailstorms, we recommend combining the cover with undercover parking where possible, as no fabric car cover can fully prevent dents from large hail stones.
Can I access the car while the cover is on?
Yes. The driver-side zipper lets you access the vehicle without removing the full cover — useful for quick trips or retrieving items from inside.
What is the difference between the Black Shield 420D and the Blue Shield 210D?
The Black Shield uses 420D Oxford fabric — twice the thread density of the Blue Shield's 210D. This makes the Black Shield heavier-duty, more abrasion-resistant and better suited for long-term or permanent outdoor parking. The Blue Shield is ideal for lighter daily use at a lower price point.
What is the difference between the Black Shield 420D and the Black Shield Pro?
The Black Shield Pro adds a soft inner lining that protects delicate paint finishes, making it the better choice for prestige or luxury vehicles. The 420D is well suited for bakkies, SUVs and everyday vehicles where the inner lining is less critical.
How do I choose the right size?
Measure your vehicle's length, width and height, then match to the size guide above. When in doubt, size up — a slightly larger cover is better than one that does not reach the bumpers. Common choices: Toyota Hilux Double Cab → 2XL or 3XL; VW Polo → M; Toyota Fortuner → 2XL; Ford Ranger with canopy → 3XL.
Does this cover fit bakkies and pickups?
Yes. Sizes 2XL and 3XL are specifically suited for South African double-cab bakkies including the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Nissan Navara. Choose 3XL for bakkies fitted with a canopy or roof rack accessories.
How do I care for the cover?
Hand wash or gentle machine wash with mild detergent in cold water. Do not tumble dry. Air dry flat or draped over the vehicle. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, which can damage the waterproof coating.
Do you deliver across South Africa?
Yes. We deliver nationwide across South Africa including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas. Standard delivery typically takes 3–5 business days.

Fitted ok, snorkel makes it a bit skew but workable. A left or right fitted snorkel option may help some.
Very good product. Quick response and fast delivery.
Fits perfectly and very good quality material used.
The quality is good and I will recommend it to anyone
amazing product I thought it would be Abit thicker but it works well just don't be parked outside if it's hailing bad
I park outside everyday, so I am grateful for this guy, it is durable, easy to fold and the waterproofing is great.
Just barely fitted my Golf 1 but good quality.
Very happy with this cover. I have the Haval H1 and its fits really good. maybe a tad big but the elastic keeps it in place and then you secure it under the car with a band aswell.
Would recommend. This car cover is wonderful. Fits my hatchback and is easy to put on and take off. Also has handy zips for when you need to get into one of the car doors but don’t want to take the whole cover off. Nicely made with good materials
Perfect fit for a chevy spark. Very good quality.
Excellent, I'm so happy with my purchase. Exactly what I wanted, good quality, would definitely recommend.
The quality, the fit and everything is 100%
Perfect fit on my Polo and keeps the dust out.
well, we live in a complex and we park in an open space..and i hardly use my car. washed my car and got it covered.. everytime i take off the cover i smile a little..its always clean. no more dust, bird 💩 or rain on my car.. love the side zip on the driver side.we always forget stuff in the car so its easy to open and be it closed just as.
Stays on even during strong winds, protecting from sun&rain
A good size for a hatchback, I got mine for my Polo, it fits well only downside is that it flops in the wind even with it tied down.
The product is good and fit for the car
The product is extremely good.
Convinient and delivered on time
First had a really thin plastic cover that was too big for my husbands car. Looked for something affordable with some quality reviews and came across this. It's absolutely worth it for the price! Really is waterproof in light and heavy rain. Material is thick, and the part that touches the car is smooth enough to not scratch the paint. We just had the car resprayed and don't have a garage atm. So this is a life saver. Doesn't lift with hectic winds either. Fits Toyota Corolla 84 model perfectly 👌
Great stuff. Covers the car properly. going to get another
Great cover but too small for my Tiggo Cross 1.5 HEV Elite DHT. Fits my brother's Kia RIO perfectly though.
Fits a hatchback perfectly, quality is great. Once you get the hang of it, your can cover your car under a minute. Love this and would recommend anytime
The car cover is great, but it is not able to cover my Volvo S60 completely. My vehicle seems to be too long. I will keep the cover until I purchase a vehicle that will be more suitable because the product quality is very good
This cover is good quality, nice and thick. Even has a zip at the driver door. It fits good around the front and back, with tight fitting elastic.
I got this because I live in a complex and in winter white stuff drips off the carport onto the car. Now my car stays clean for much longer. It fits perfectly and once you get the hang of it you can easily put it on and remove it on your own.
The reflective strips are great because it's black and it helps other people see it when parking. My mirrors fold in so I'm not too worried about the mirror covers. the dorr zip is really helpful if you need to get into the car.
I hadn't been using the straps since it wasn't really windy but this morning it was and the cover was definitely coming off at the back. Strapping it under the car now secures it really nicely. Though it's not easy to do on your own in the wind. It might have been a bit better to have something that straps to the wheels.
This product is easy to put on your car and is quality.
Super strong, it covers my x line so well
Product does what it says on the box. Good quality and comes with a nice bag. It seems a little smaller than the dimensions mentioned in the ad. Overall so far so good.
